Vimentin is a good candidate but it can stain other types of cells too. I think that you need to try a few of the options suggested above especially Seppe's idea with FSP-1. Cite

Despite the abundance of clinical data linking vimentin to poor patient outcome, it is unclear if vimentin is required for metastasis or is a correlative biomarker. We developed a novel genetically engineered Vimentin is a fairly widespread cytoskeletal component encoding for intermediate filaments. It can be used as a target for immunohistochemistry to help characterise numerous tissues and tumours. BioTracker TiY Vimentin is a live cell fluorescent dye that selectively stains TICs over differentiated tumor cells or normal cells. TiY can be used for visualization and enrichment of functionally active TICs from patient tumors.

Immunofluorescent analysis of Vimentin using Vimentin Monoclonal antibody (J144) (Product # MA3-745) shows staining in HeLa cells. Vimentin staining (green), F-Actin staining with Phalloidin (red) and nuclei with DAPI (blue) is shown.

Its name comes from the Latin vimentum which refers to an array of flexible rods. Immunofluorescence staining of HeLa Cells with antibody to reveal vimentin containing intermediate filaments in green and antibody to LAMP1 to reveal lysosomes in red. Nuclear DNA is seen in blue.

Lamps are widely used, however, these light sources have several drawbacks. It was classically thought to be limited to mesenchymal cells only, and in the early days of immunohistochemistry, it was thought to be a specific marker for sarcomas and other mesenchymal neoplasms.

Its name comes from the Latin vimentum which refers to an array of flexible rods. Immunofluorescence staining of HeLa Cells with antibody to reveal vimentin containing intermediate filaments in green and antibody to LAMP1 to reveal lysosomes in red. Vimentin is found in all types of sarcomas and lymphomas. Positive staining for vimentin is seen in most cells of fibrosarcomas, liposarcomas, malignant fibrous histocytomas, angiosarcomas, chondrosarcomas and lymphomas. All melanomas and Schwannomas are strongly vimentin-positive.

Although no chRCC stained for vimentin, the lack of vimentin expression was not specific for chRCC since 60.9% of ccRCC also failed to express vimentin. Combining the two stains such that only CD9 positive and vimentin negative samples were identified as chRCC improved predictive value only marginally, yielding 100.0% sensitivity and 95.2% specificity. According to the ROC analyses with Youden's index correction for Slug expression analysis, we defined a cutoff value of >6 as high-staining group ( n = 110) and <6 as low-staining group ( n = 98). In contrast, the cutoff value of Vimentin was >2 as high-staining group ( n = 140) and <2 as low-staining group ( n = 68).

The Gram stain, developed by Christian Gram in the 1800's, was the first differential staining technique in use and is still an important tool for distinguishing

Vimentin is useful as part of an antibody panel for differential diagnostic purposes, such as differentiating soft tissue Using immunologic methods, vimentin can be readily demonstrated in frozen sections as well as paraffin sections. However, in formalin-fixed tissue, there may be reduced vimentin staining, and results could be inconsistent. Some of this inconsistent expression can be reduced using antigen-retrieval methods. Vimentin Antibody Staining Protocol for Immunohistochemistry . Description: This monoclonal antibody reacts with the intermediate filament protein vimentin present in cells of mesenchymal origin. Broad interspecies cross-reactivity has been observed with human, rat, and chicken vimentin.
